★Today’s breakfast was croissants, poached eggs, mushrooms, and fruit juice.
I went to the British Museum. It was a very large building and looked like the Parthenon.
There were a lot of artifacts there.
I saw the Rosetta Stone. It was much bigger than I had expected.
I was very happy to see such a famous artifact, but I was also a little disappointed because I didn’t have enough time to see everything.
I watched The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre.
I couldn’t understand all the English, but I knew the story, so it wasn’t a big problem. The show was very exciting, and the music and action were amazing.
Today was very exciting. I’m looking forward to tomorrow.
By the way, today’s dinner was meatballs with rice, salad, and jelly. It was very tasty.(T.S.)
★British Museum
At the British Museum, we saw a Moai statue, the Rosetta Stone, an Anglo-Saxon helmet, and many other exhibits. I was very happy to see them up close. Great!
Free Time in Covent Garden
Covent Garden is a town lined with stylish boutiques. Our group went to MAC, and I bought a lipstick. I enjoyed walking around the fashionable shops. After that, we visited Whittard. I had heard that it is one of the most famous English tea brands before leaving Japan. I was healed by the cute store and its products. Amazing! I learned ballet for eight years. Wow.
Lion King
I like musicals because they include ballet. I saw The Lion King when I was seven, so I had almost forgotten the story. It was refreshing and fun to watch it in English. I think it gave me a unique perspective. The most impressive part was the beginning of the performance. The powerful singing and realistic animal movements touched my heart. In Japan, this kind of performance is called “Gekidan Shiki” (劇団四季). Both are wonderful in their own way, so they cannot be compared. Someday, I want to be able to understand the whole story in English.(F.Y.)
★Today, I finally got to walk around the streets of London. My favorite guitarist, W. Hiroto, inspired me to dream of visiting London someday, and today that dream finally came true.
The British Museum had so many incredible exhibits. The most impressive one was the Rosetta Stone. I was surprised that the engraved letters were much smaller than I had imagined. It even made me wonder if it’s really okay that admission to such an amazing museum is free. I’d love to come back someday and take my time exploring it again.
After our free time, we took photos with our teachers. We also happened to run into Mr. Nick in Covent Garden by chance. All of the teachers are so kind, and I really love them.
In the afternoon, we watched The Lion King. I had already seen it in Japan, but this time the English was a little easier to understand. However, the atmosphere was quite different from the performances in Japan. Everyone in the audience joined in and helped create an exciting atmosphere, which felt really fresh and made the experience so much fun.
I’m genuinely having an amazing time every day. It’s sad to think that my time at Eton College is slowly coming to an end. I want to learn as much as I can and make the most of every moment while I’m here.
“Oh, I’m so glad you got to experience London!”(S.M.)
★Dear diary,
I had bananas and eggs for breakfast. As soon as we finished eating, we left for London.
The first place we visited was the British Museum. There, we saw the Rosetta Stone, a mummy, and some armor. I couldn’t understand the meaning of the Rosetta Stone, and I learned that it is an ancient stone with inscriptions.
On the bus, I played Brawl Stars while listening to music. It was very fun and one of the happiest moments in my life.
In Covent Garden, I visited GODIVA, RALPH, and OAKLEY. I wanted to go to Nike’s official shop. At last, I watched the stage show The Lion King.
I had the best day since coming to Eton.(U.R.)
★Today I woke up at 5:05 and ate breakfast at 7:25. For breakfast, I had chocolate bread. It was more delicious than I expected — I’m glad!
After breakfast, I went to the British Museum. I saw the Rosetta Stone. It was so big, and I heard it was very heavy. There were many people, so it was hard for me to take photos. Ah!
After that, I saw many sculptures. They were called the Elgin Marbles. At the British Museum, I bought a pin badge as a souvenir.
At 4:00, I watched The Lion King. I had been looking forward to seeing the musical. The props and costumes were powerful and luxurious, and I was speechless — amazing!
When it started, I was drawn into the story. The musical had many songs, and all the actors’ singing voices were very attractive. The boy who played Simba was young, but he had a singing voice that moved people’s hearts and acting ability beyond his years. Nice phrase!
I was surprised when the audience clapped during the dark. I thought it was one of the differences between Japan and Britain — nice!
The Lion King was the best musical I’ve ever seen. I want to see it again when I visit Britain.
Today was one of the most memorable days. I was so tired that I slept on both the outbound and return buses. After I slept, my neck hurt a lot.
